Fr. Omorogbe, a parish priest at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Benin City, was abducted April 18 by unidentified gunmen The Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Edwin Omoregbe, who was kidnapped has been freed. He was kidnapped near Benin City on his way from Uromi, Esan North East local government area. The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Babatunde Kokumo, had led his men and members of the vigilance group in combing the bushes. The priest was released shortly after Catholic faithful in the state prayed during the Mass service on Sunday. A short statement released by the Archdiocese of Benin City, it said: “With great joy in our heart, we want to inform you all that our priest, Rev. Fr. Edwin Omorogbe has been released from the hands of kidnappers. We thank you all for your prayers and pray that God continue to grant all our heart desires.”
