Saint June 25 : St. William of Vercelli : Founder of de Monte-Vergine

St. William of Vercelli
ABBOT AND FOUNDER
Feast: June 25

     Information:
Feast Day:June 25
Born:1085 at Vercelli, Italy
Died:25 June 1142 at Guglietto, Italy
ST. WILLIAM, having lost his father and mother in his infancy, was brought up by his friends in great sentiments of piety; and at fifteen years of age, out of an earnest desire to lead a penitential life, he left Piedmont, his native country, made an austere pilgrimage to St. James's in Galicia, and afterward retired into the kingdom of Naples, where he chose for his abode a desert mountain, and lived in perpetual contemplation and the exercises of most rigorous penitential austerities. Finding himself discovered and his contemplation interrupted, he changed his habitation and settled in a place called Monte-Vergine, situated between Nola and Benevento, in the same kingdom; but his reputation followed him, and he was obliged by two neighboring priests to permit certain fervent persons to live with him and to imitate his ascetic practices. Thus, in 1119, was laid the foundation of the religious congregation called de Monte-Vergine. The Saint died on the 25th of June, 1142.

#BreakingNews Parishioners vow to Rebuild Catholic Church in New York that was Destroyed by Fire

A devastating fire on Sunday, June 9, 2019 left a Catholic Church in Queens, New York destroyed. The parishioners have vowed to Rebuild Queens their Church that Burned Down on a Sunday in June.

The building was left as a burnt shell after fire destroyed it on Sunday.

It was a home to hundreds of people. CBS quoted some of the parishioners.

For more than 60 years, the church had provided solace and hope to the people of Rosedale. Generations of families raised their kids within the walls.

It’s why Father Miguel Auguste knew he had to find a way to continue mass, even if it meant moving to the basement of the rectory.

“Look at my face. It’s my church. It’s my place,” Auguste said. “Through faith and prayer, endurance and faithfulness, we will be able to overcome.”

Firefighters still don’t know what caused the blaze, but parishioners said it started in the back, near the altar. Nearly everything was destroyed.

“I couldn’t sleep. This morning, it just hit me. I kept crying because this is where we come every morning. Whatever, you feel sad. You feel down,” parishioner Vania Nelson said.

Through Monday’s sermon, Father Auguste reminded his congregation that the church is more than a building. It’s made up of people.

“Church is church. It lives on faith,” Auguste said.

The altar may be charred, the furnishings may be tattered, but the parishioners of St. Pius X said the church will rebuild stronger than ever.

The cleanup started Monday inside the church, but the diocese said it could take up to a few years for the building to be completely restored. Edited from CBS

"Unplanned" the Pro-Life film that changed the hearts of Abortion providers will Play in Canadian Theaters on July 12

In a press release, it was noted that the Pro-Life film "Unplanned" will debut publicly in Canada on July 12. Executive director, of National Campus for Life Network Ruth Shaw, stated “I have never seen a movie so boldly depict the reality of abortion. This movie can reshape the narrative for young people everywhere.”
Press Release:
UNPLANNED, the controversial independent U.S. feature film, was originally released widely in American theaters on March 29, 2019, and earned a coveted A+ CinemaScore and No. 4 ranking at the box office, grossing more than $18 million to date despite the fact that the MPAA categorized the movie with an R rating and multiple television networks and digital platforms refused to run advertisements for the film.

Written, produced and directed by Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman, (GOD’S NOT DEAD, GOD’S NOT DEAD 2, DO YOU BELIEVE) and produced by Daryl Lefever (I CAN ONLY IMAGINE), UNPLANNED puts the story of Abby Johnson, the most prominent defector from the abortion industry, on the big screen at a time when the life issue is hanging in the balance amidst a divided political landscape worldwide.

“This is the most important movie anyone will ever see on the most controversial issue of our time,” said Solomon and Konzelman. “When UNPLANNED comes to Canadian theaters, this movie will make abortion unpopular. This is the movie that no one wants you to see and it took a petition, a boycott and a brave independent distributor who would boldly bring this movie to the people of Canada.”

In April, producers and the film’s lead actress, Ashley Bratcher, screened the film on Parliamentary Hill for members of the Parliament and country-wide activists in Canada’s pro-life movement. Since that screening, the demand for UNPLANNED erupted, sparking a petition that has garnished more than 100,000 signatures, and resulting in Abby Johnson coming to Canada to speak and rally pro-lifers at the National March for Life. In May, nearly 3,000 Canadians were able to view Canada’s only public screening of UNPLANNED in Edmonton, hosted by Harvest Ministries International.  With the demand for UNPLANNED increasing daily and no firm distribution offers, a Canada Wants UNPLANNED boycott ensued, led by Faytene Grasseschi, a Canadian pro-life advocate and television personality.

UNPLANNED will be distributed in throughout Canada in theaters and other venues by Cinedicom, an independent distribution firm.

“UNPLANNED is a movie that Canadians want and need to see,” said BJ McKelvie, president of Cinedicom. ”What Abby saw is what changed her. That is why Canada needs UNPLANNED. I complained to God that I was hearing that UNPLANNED was banned in Canada and I heard His voice loud and clear, ‘Why don’t you distribute it?’ It was a defining moment for me.”

UNPLANNED stars Ashley Bratcher (WAR ROOM, 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN) as Johnson; Brooks Ryan as her husband, Doug; Robia Scott (CSI, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER) as Abby’s superior at Planned Parenthood; Emma Elle Roberts (HUNGER GAMES:MOCKING JAY, I AM NOT ASHAMED, ) as Marilisa Carney, Kaiser Johnson (LITTLE BOY, VAMPIRE DIARIES, SLEEPY HOLLOW); and Jared Lotz (OF LITTLE CONVENIENCE, THANKSGIVING) as Shawn Carney.

US Bishops' Conference voices Concerns over Imminent Deportation plans - Full Text

Chairman of U.S. Bishops’ Committee on Migration Statement in Response to Imminent Administration Deportation Plans

June 22, 2019
WASHINGTON—On Monday, June 17, 2019, President Donald J. Trump announced impending immigration enforcement actions by the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Subsequent press reports on Friday, June 21 indicated that ICE has plans for an enforcement operation in major cities to remove thousands of migrant families with deportation orders.

In response to the President’s statement and reports that have followed, the Most Reverend Joe S. Vásquez, Bishop of Austin and Chair of the USCCB Committee on Migration, issued the following statement:
“We recognize the right of nations to control their borders in a just and proportionate manner. However, broad enforcement actions instigate panic in our communities and will not serve as an effective deterrent to irregular migration. Instead, we should focus on the root causes in Central America that have compelled so many to leave their homes in search of safety and reform our immigration system with a view toward justice and the common good. We stand ready to work with the Administration and Congress to achieve those objectives.
During this unsettling time, we offer our prayers and support to our brothers and sisters, regardless of their immigration status, and recognizing their inherent dignity as children of God.”FULL TEXT Release by USCCB

of penance * and the power of thy word, * didst draw after thee the multitudes, * in
order to dispose them to receive the Messias worthily * and to listen to His heavenly
doctrine; * grant that it may be given unto us, * by means of the example of a holy
life * and the exercise of every good work, * to bring many souls to God, * but
above all * those souls that are enveloped in the darkness of error and ignorance *
and that are led astray by vice.

openly * for his wicked and dissolute life; * by thy prayers obtain for us a heart, * brave and generous, *
in order that we may overcome all human respect * and openly profess our faith * in loyal obedience to
the teachings of Jesus (☨) Christ, * our divine Master.

Today's Mass Readings and Video : Mon. June 24, 2019 - Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist

Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist - Mass during the Day
Lectionary: 587

Reading 1IS 49:1-6

Hear me, O coastlands,
listen, O distant peoples.
The LORD called me from birth,
from my mother's womb he gave me my name.
He made of me a sharp-edged sword
and concealed me in the shadow of his arm.
He made me a polished arrow,
in his quiver he hid me.
You are my servant, he said to me,
Israel, through whom I show my glory.

Though I thought I had toiled in vain,
and for nothing, uselessly, spent my strength,
yet my reward is with the LORD,
my recompense is with my God.
For now the LORD has spoken
who formed me as his servant from the womb,
that Jacob may be brought back to him
and Israel gathered to him;
and I am made glorious in the sight of the LORD,
and my God is now my strength!
It is too little, he says, for you to be my servant,
to raise up the tribes of Jacob,
and restore the survivors of Israel;
I will make you a light to the nations,
that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.

Responsorial PsalmPS 139:1B-3, 13-14AB, 14C-15

R.(14) I praise you, for I am wonderfully made.
O LORD, you have probed me, you know me:
you know when I sit and when I stand;
you understand my thoughts from afar.
My journeys and my rest you scrutinize,
with all my ways you are familiar.
R. I praise you for I am wonderfully made.
Truly you have formed my inmost being;
you knit me in my mother's womb.
I give you thanks that I am fearfully, wonderfully made;
wonderful are your works.
R. I praise you, for I am wonderfully made.
My soul also you knew full well;
nor was my frame unknown to you
When I was made in secret,
when I was fashioned in the depths of the earth.
R. I praise you, for I am wonderfully made.

Reading 2ACTS 13:22-26

In those days, Paul said:
"God raised up David as king;
of him God testified,
I have found David, son of Jesse, a man after my own heart;
he will carry out my every wish.

From this man's descendants God, according to his promise,
has brought to Israel a savior, Jesus.
John heralded his coming by proclaiming a baptism of repentance
to all the people of Israel;
and as John was completing his course, he would say,
'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he.
Behold, one is coming after me;
I am not worthy to unfasten the sandals of his feet.'

"My brothers, sons of the family of Abraham,
and those others among you who are God-fearing,
to us this word of salvation has been sent."

Alleluia LK 1:76

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
You, child, will be called prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

GospelLK 1:57-66, 80

When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child
she gave birth to a son.
Her neighbors and relatives heard
that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her,
and they rejoiced with her.
When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child,
they were going to call him Zechariah after his father,
but his mother said in reply,
"No. He will be called John."
But they answered her,
"There is no one among your relatives who has this name."
So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called.
He asked for a tablet and wrote, "John is his name,"
and all were amazed.
Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed,
and he spoke blessing God.
Then fear came upon all their neighbors,
and all these matters were discussed
throughout the hill country of Judea.
All who heard these things took them to heart, saying,
"What, then, will this child be?"
For surely the hand of the Lord was with him.
The child grew and became strong in spirit,
and he was in the desert until the day
of his manifestation to Israel.
