#BreakingNews Massive Explosion in Beirut leaves over 70 Dead and over 4000 Injured - Video

A huge explosion in the Lebanese capital Beirut has killed over 70 people and left more than 4,000 injured according to the health ministry.

The head of Lebanon's Red Cross said there were victims "everywhere - in all the streets and areas near and far".

Prime Minister Hassan Diab called Tuesday afternoon's explosion a "big catastrophe" and said those responsible would pay the price.

He said the explosion was caused by more than 2,700 tonnes of ammonium nitrate left unsecured at a warehouse near the city's port for six years.

Video showed the moment a building several storeys high exploded, sending a huge shockwave across the city that was heard and felt as far away as Cyprus - more than 125 miles (200km) away.

Lebanon's internal security chief, Abbas Ibrahim, also said the blast might have been caused by highly explosive material confiscated from a ship and stored at the port.

Prime Minister Diab has called for a day of mourning on Wednesday.

The explosion in Lebanon accompanies its worst economic and financial crisis in decades - and tensions between Israel and militant Hezbollah group along Lebanon's southern border.

Pope Francis' Message to 50,000 Youth at Medjugorje "run attracted by that much loved Face, which we adore in the Holy Eucharist..." FULL TEXT

MESSAGE OF THE HOLY FATHER FRANCIS
TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE GATHERED IN MEDJUGORJE FOR THEIR ANNUAL MEETING

Dear!
The annual meeting of young people in Medjugorje is a time rich in prayer, catechesis and fraternity. It offers all of you the opportunity to meet Jesus Christ alive, especially in the Eucharist, celebrated and adored, and in Reconciliation. And so it helps you to discover another way of life, different from what the culture of the provisional offers, according to which nothing can be definitive but only enjoying the present moment counts. In this climate of relativism, in which it is difficult to find the true and sure answers, the guiding words of the Festival: "Come and see" ( Jn 1:39), addressed by Jesus to the disciples, are a blessing. Jesus also turns his gaze on you and invites you to go and be with him.
Do not be afraid! Christ lives and wants each of you to live. He is the true beauty and youth of this world. Everything he touches becomes young, becomes new, is filled with life and meaning (cf. Apostolic Exhortation Christus vivit , 1). We see him precisely in that Gospel scene, when the Lord asks the two disciples who follow him: "What are you looking for?". And they reply: "Rabbi, where are you staying?" And Jesus says: "Come and see" (cf. Jn 1 : 35-39). And they go, see and stay. The experience of meeting Jesus was so impressed in the memory of those disciples that one of them even recorded the time: "It was about four in the afternoon" (v. 39).
The Gospel tells us that after being at the house of the Lord, the two disciples became "mediators" that allow others to meet him, to know him and to follow him. Andrea immediately went to tell his brother Simone and led him to Jesus. When he saw Simone, the Maestro immediately gave him a nickname: "Cefa", that is "Stone", which will become the name Pietro (cf. Jn 1,40-42) . This shows that by meeting Jesus you become a new person, and you receive the mission of transmitting this experience to others, but always keeping your gaze fixed on him, the Lord.
Dear young people, have you met this gaze of Jesus who asks you: "What are you looking for?" Have you heard his voice saying to you: "Come and see"? Have you felt that urge to set off? Take the time to be with Jesus, to fill yourself with his Spirit and be ready for the fascinating adventure of life. Go to meet him, stay with him in prayer, trust in him who is an expert on the human heart.
This beautiful invitation from the Lord: "Come and see", told by the young and beloved disciple of Christ, is also addressed to future disciples. Jesus invites you to meet him and this Festival becomes an opportunity to be able to "come and see". The word "come", in addition to indicating a physical movement, has a deeper, spiritual sense. It indicates an itinerary of faith whose aim is to "see", that is, to experience the Lord and, thanks to him, to see the full and definitive meaning of our existence.
The great model of the Church with a young heart, ready to follow Christ with freshness and docility, always remains the Virgin Mary. The strength of his "yes" and that "happens for me" which he said to the angel always strikes us. His "yes" means getting involved and taking risks, with no other guarantee than the certainty of being the bearer of a promise. Her "Behold the handmaid of the Lord" ( Lk1.38) is the most beautiful example that tells us what happens when man, in his freedom, abandons himself in the hands of God. May this example fascinate and guide you! Mary is the Mother who watches over «her children who walk in life often tired, needy, but with the desire that the light of hope will not go out. This is what we want: that the light of hope does not go out. Our Mother looks at this pilgrim people, people of young people whom she loves, who seeks her by making silence in her heart despite the fact that along the way there is so much noise, conversations and distractions "( Christus vivit , 48 ).
Dear young people, "run attracted by that much loved Face, which we adore in the Holy Eucharist and recognize in the flesh of the suffering brother. May the Holy Spirit push you forward in this race. The Church needs your momentum, your intuitions, your faith "( ibid. , 299 ). In your race for the Gospel, also animated by this Festival, I entrust all of you to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, invoking light and strength from the Spirit so that you can be true witnesses of Christ. For this I pray and bless you, and I also ask you to pray for me.

O holy Priest of Ars, your life was filled with humility. You wore an old cassock. You ate meager meals. You realized that before the throne of God, you were one of His creatures made to glorify God and praise Him in all things. You said that the first virtue is humility; the second, humility; and the third, humility. You counseled people to remain humble, remain simple and the more one is so, the more good he will do. Your simplicity of soul and your uncluttered way of life led you to sanctity.

O humble St. John Vianney, when Father _____________________ forgets he is totally dependent on God for everything, intercede for him with Almighty God, to allow him to see that without His Creator nothing is possible and that he must rely on God for everything. He is his Creator, who keeps him in existence at every moment. Obtain for Father ________ the grace of humility. May his life exemplify your humility and simplicity, a life uncluttered, a life totally dependent on God.

St. John Vianney, Lover of Penance and Mortification O holy Priest of Ars, you led a life of detachment from worldly pleasures. Your meals consisted of a boiled potato each day; you slept a few hours each night. But you did all of this so that you would be able to serve God to the best of your ability. Your life was portrayed by the saying: We complain when we suffer. We have much more reason to complain when we do not suffer, since nothing likens us to our Lord as the bearing of His cross.

O great St. John Vianney, in these days when we are surrounded by so many comforts and pleasures, it can be so difficult for us to do penance for our sins and live a life of detachment. I resolve to offer some sacrifice today for the expiation of Father ______________'s sins and the sins of all mankind. Assist Father in accepting the cross God chooses to send him. May he embrace the life of sacrifice to which Priests are called. May he willingly offer his whole life to God! Obtain for Father _____________________ the grace to imitate the life of Christ by the bearing of His cross.

John Vianney, Good and Holy Priest
O holy Priest of Ars, you lived in an age of much upheaval, in a time when men turned their backs on God. Your bishop told of a parish to which he wished to send you where there was no love. Not only did you draw these people back to God, but your saintly reputation soon spread and many people were converted to a life of holiness. You said that a good Priest, a Priest after Christ's own heart is the greatest treasure that God can give a parish. Give us such Priests!

Violence on the Streets of Sierra Leone as the Church calls for Peace

AFRICA/SIERRA LEONE - Violence on the streets: the Church calls for peace in a polarized nation
Saturday, 1 August 2020

Makeni (Agenzia Fides) - The recent past, made of civil war and atrocities, causes an alarm signal to light up whenever outbreaks of violence are awakened in Sierra Leone. Clashes have occurred in Makeni, the capital of the northern province, in the past few weeks which have caused victims and many wounded. The Church immediately wanted to call everyone to calm and Apostolic Administrator of Makeni, Bishop Natale Paganelli, expressed concern, calling for reconciliation before clashes escalate into social conflict.
Father Paul Morana Sandi, Secretary General of the Inter-territorial Conference of the Bishops of Gambia and Sierra Leone, reached by Agenzia Fides, explained the latest events and the intervention of the Church as follows: "On July 17 and 18 the first news of serious incidents between security forces and young demonstrators arrived. The reason for the revolt was the transfer of an energy generator from Makeni to Lungi. Similar situations have occurred in other areas of the Country such as Lunsar and Tombo. In some cases, contact between police forces and demonstrators led to the death of several people, the injury of others and the loss of property. Some versions speak of interference and exploitation by different political factions: in a highly polarized society, this is likely to be the case. In any case, the response of the security forces is currently being put in the spotlight, just as the need for young people to adopt attitudes marked by greater moderation has been underlined. In recent days, civil society groups have called for an independent investigation and measures to prevent similar incidents".
The Catholic Church, always attentive to outbreaks of violence, has addressed various appeals to the population, all calling for calm and prudence. "Mgr. Natale Paganelli wrote two Pastoral Letters. He called everyone to dialogue and reconciliation, a very positive choice in my opinion if we consider our recent past and our fragile democracy. The request to every Sierra Leonean citizen is to continue to seek and live peace and unity, the only way to ensure the country's development and prosperity. The Church continues to preach peace and reconciliation in a society strongly divided at a regional and political level. Through churches and other institutions we try to raise awareness of the need to keep the country on the path to peace and respect for the rule of law". Father Paul Morana Sandi concludes: "It also seems absurd that such accidents take place at a time when we are dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. As a Church we collaborate with the Government and our international donor partners in the fight against Covid-19 and we encourage all citizens to respect health rules and protocols in order to guarantee health for themselves and others".
