RIP Fr. José Guadalupe Popoca Soto - Beloved Catholic Priest Murdered at Age 43 - Known as Father Cheché
Through a video broadcast on Twitter (see below), the Bishop of Cuernavaca, Ramón Castro Castro, lamented the death of José Guadalupe Popoca Soto, parish priest of San Nicolás de Bari in Galeana, Zacatepec, Morelos.

Castro Castro indicated that he had confidence in the authorities to find those responsible for the murder. In the video, the sorrowful face of the bishop communicated "with deep sadness" the murder of the cleric, expressing that the authorities now have the responsibility of the case: "We fully trust that they will help us to know what has happened."
Fr. Popoca Soto was 43 and was ordained in August 2007. Known as Father Cheché, he carried out various apostolates in the Diocese of Cuernavaca among young people and children as a diocesan advisor to Friendship Gangs and enjoyed the affection and recognition of his parishioners. . According to a statement from the Diocese of Cuernavaca, Cheché served as vicar in various communities and as parish priest in María Auxiliadora Chipitlán, Cuernavaca (2015-2017) and in San Nicolás de Bari since 2017.
With the murder of Popoca, there were four priests killed by violent causes in Mexico during the six-year period 2018-2024.
