Highest Ranking Woman at the Vatican is a Religious Sister Appointed by Pope Francis as Secretary General of the Governorate



Pope Francis appointed the highest ranking woman at the Vatican on November 4, 2021. Franciscan Sister of the Eucharist Raffaella Petrini was chosen as the new secretary general of the Governorate of Vatican City State. She is the first woman to ever hold the post.

Curriculum vitae

The Most Reverend Sister Raffaella Petrini was born in Rome on January 15, 1969. She graduated in Political Science from the Free International University of Guido Carli and a Doctorate from the Pontifical University of San Tommaso d'Aquino , where she is currently Professor. From 2005 until now she has been an Official of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.

The Holy Father has appointed the Most Illustrious Lawyer Giuseppe Puglisi-Alibrandi, Head of the Juridical Office of the Governorate of the Vatican City State, Deputy Secretary General of the Governorate of the Vatican City State.

The distinguished lawyer Giuseppe Puglisi-Alibrandi was born in Rome on 23 October 1966. He graduated in Law from the University of Rome La Sapienza . Since 2014 he has been an Official of the Governorate of the Vatican City State where, since 2017, he has been Head of the Legal Office, Civil Status, Registry and Notaries.

Appointment of Member of the Pontifical Commission for the Vatican City State

The Holy Father has appointed Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, OFM Conv., Archpriest of the Papal Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican, President of the Fabbrica di San Pietro and Vicar General of His Holiness for the Vatican City.
