Former Secretary of St. Pope John Paul II is Cleared by the Vatican of Allegations

Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz, age 83, former secretary of St. Pope John Paul II, has been cleared by the Vatican of allegations with regards to management of abuse cases. Message of April 22, 2022 from the Apostolic Nunciature in Poland.
Announcement of the Apostolic Nunciature
The Apostolic Nunciature in Poland informs that the Holy See examined the documentation provided by Card. Angelo Bagnasco, Archbishop Emeritus of Genoa, gathered during his visit to Poland on June 17-26, 2021, the purpose of which was to verify some cases related to the activities of Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz during his performance as Archbishop of the Archbishop of Krakow (2005-2016).
The analysis of the collected documentation allowed for the assessment of these activities by Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz as correct and therefore the Holy See decided not to proceed further.

STATEMENT BY CARDINAL STANISŁAW DZIWISZ

I would like to express my gratitude to all those who contributed to a responsible response to the allegations made against me during my term as Archbishop of Krakow in 2005-2016.

During his visit to Poland in June 2021, Fr. Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, as a representative of the Holy See, made every effort to clarify the above-mentioned accusations, undeserved and painful for me.

I hope that today's announcement of the Apostolic Nunciature in Poland will contribute not only to clarifying the matter, but also to restore peace of mind to all those who felt offended by the accusations I encountered.

I am grateful to the Holy See for its fair judgment.

I assure everyone of my remembrance in prayer.

Krakow, April 22, 2022

Stanisław card.
