The Our Lady of Lourdes and of Praise Sanctuary is the new tourist attraction in Santa Catarina, located in Ituporanga, Brazil. This Friday, the religious complex was inaugurated with the presence of the bishop of the Diocese of Rio do Sul, Dom Onécimo Alberton, and the deputy governor of the state, Daniela Reinerh, the mayor of Ituporanga, Gervásio Maciel, in addition to state deputies.

Dom Onecimo presided over the ceremony with a blessing and celebration, where he spoke about the symbology of the sanctuary for the municipality. “On this mountain, the work portrays a passage from the Gospel of Saint John, of Mary next to the cross of Jesus. Now, she is presented to the city that is before us, to all who pass and to the whole world”, said the bishop.

The biography of Our Lady of Lourdes was also presented, as well as an institutional video, which told the history of the complex. Silvio Prim's testimony of faith and devotion was the driving force for the construction of the sanctuary in his hometown, to contribute in some way to his countrymen.
“I had Our Lady of Lourdes as my patron saint and my protective mother, who helped me in the difficult times of life, and I decided, looking at this place from home, to make a little saint here on top of this hill. But this dream became beautiful, faith grew and it became this beautiful sanctuary that we made here in Ituporanga”, says Silvio Prim, who paid tribute to the people who actively participated in the construction of the sanctuary with a commemorative plaque.
On Saturday, the first official day of operation, it was the turn of the population of Ituporanga and tourists to visit the monument of Our Lady of Lourdes, over 131 feet high and weighing approximately 400 tons. It is possible to reach the sculpture on foot, via a staircase with 460 steps, with the company of the 12 statues of the apostles distributed along the way, or use the access ramp for vehicles that reaches the base of the statue.
At the base of the monument, there is the Chapel of praise, which will serve as an oratory with a capacity for 120 people. Next to Our Lady de Lourdes, the first panoramic cross in Brazil was built, with a height of 50 meters. It was possible for tourists to climb inside the structure, with the help of an elevator, until reaching a glass platform, 35 meters from the ground, to enjoy the beautiful view of Ituporanga and the Itajaí do Sul River, which crosses the city. Another highlight of the complex is the largest suspended rosary third in the world, with 40 meters high.
On site, there is also all the necessary infrastructure to welcome the public, with a large parking lot and food court, which allow the service to visitors from all regions, in addition to excursions that can be booked directly with the complex's team. The sanctuary hours will be from Wednesday to Sunday, from 9 am to 6 pm.
With the Shrine of Praise, Ituporanga joins Nova Trento on the national religious tourism route. Recently, the Legislative Assembly of the State of Santa Catarina approved the bill that recognizes the Caminho do Louvor, a pilgrimage route that joins the two cities. The 140 km route, which can be done in five days of walking or three days by bicycle. The route also passes through Vidal Ramos, Leoberto Leal and Imbuia, on natural bed roads and with little movement, with a memorable landscape of the agricultural fields of the Vale do Itajaí region.
