Bishops' Statement on the Death of POPE BENEDICT XVI
Mexico City, December 31, 2022
«In the prayer for the deceased, it is consoling and healthy to meditate on the trust of Jesus with his Father and thus allow oneself to be enveloped by the serene light of this total abandonment of the Son to the will of his “Abbá”»»
Pope Benedict XVI
The Mexican Bishops' Conference expresses its heartfelt condolences at the sad news of the passing of our beloved Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, who has been called to the Father's house to enter into his presence.
This news has caused a deep shock to the entire Church due to the pleasant memory and legacy that he has left in his Pontificate as a faithful servant, especially in recent years, who, under a humble presence of contemplative prayer of the Mystery, has given strength to Pope Francis to continue the apostolic work at the head of the mission of the Church.
As successor of Peter, apostle of the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ, he steered the boat during his Petrine Ministry, entering us to navigate through a spiritual richness and theological reflection that we must continually retake to transform into a source of peace and joy in the face of trials and sufferings that are inevitably part of our earthly pilgrimage.
Rest in peace beloved older brother in the Episcopate!!
