Two historic Churches in the United States were destroyed by fire during the last week of August. In Montana, a total-loss fire destroyed Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, in Poplar, early August 25th , in the morning, consuming a landmark structure that had served as a spiritual and social anchor for the local community since June 1942. This was released in a statement, from the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings . The Poplar Volunteer Fire Department responded to reports of heavy smoke at the church on 1st Avenue West. Firefighters entered through the north entrance and knocked down flames in the center of the church before backing out to let heavy smoke vent. Upon re-entry, crews discovered the fire had entered the ceiling and rafters, rapidly spreading through the building’s heavy wooden framework.
