10 People are Closer to Canonization as Pope Francis Authorizes Decrees for the Causes of Saints Including the Recognition of a Miracle


Promulgation of Decrees of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, 21.05.2022
During the audience granted to His Eminence Most Reverend Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, the Holy Father authorized the same Congregation to promulgate the decrees concerning:
Pope Francis approved the canonization of Blessed Giovanni Battista Scalabrini and Blessed Artemide Zatti. (see bottom)
Maria de la Concepción Barrecheguren y García (1905-1927), was a Spanish laywoman who died of tuberculosis at the age of 22. Due to her health, she was unable to take up the religious habit as she had wished. The miraculous healing of a two-year-old Spanish girl in 2014 has been attributed to her intercession.
- the miracle attributed to the intercession of the Venerable Servant of God Maria de la Concepción Barrecheguren y García, Lay Faithful; she was born in Granada (Spain) on November 27, 1905 and died there on May 13, 1927;
Five men and two women will now be recognized as venerable, following the official proclamation of their heroic virtues:
- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Theophilus Bastida Camomot; Archbishop tit. of Marcianopoli, Founder of the Congregation of the Daughters of Saint Teresa; born on March 3, 1914 in Cogon Carcar (Philippines) and died on September 27, 1988 in Magtalisay di San Fernando (Philippines);
- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Luigi Sodo; Bishop of Telese-Cerreto Sannita; born on 26 May 1811 in Naples (Italy) and died on 30 July 1895 in Cerreto Sannita (Italy);
- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Giuseppe Torres Padilla, diocesan priest, Co-founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Company of the Cross; born on 25 August 1811 in San Sebastián de La Gomera (Spain) and died on 23 April 1878 in Seville (Spain);
- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Giampietro of Sesto San Giovanni (in the century: Clemente Recalcati); Professed priest of the Order of Capuchin Friars Minor, Founder of the Congregation of the Capuchin Missionary Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi in Brasilia; born on 9 September 1868 in Sesto San Giovanni (Italy) and died on 5 December 1913 in Fortaleza (Brazil);
- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Alfredo Morganti (called Berta), professed priest of the Order of Friars Minor; born on 5 June 1886 in Pianello di Ostra (Italy) and died on 2 October 1969 in Sassoferrato (Italy);
- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Marianna of the Holy Trinity (born Marianna Allsopp González-Manrique), co-founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Trinity; born November 24, 1854 in Tepic (Mexico) and died March 15, 1933 in Madrid (Spain).
- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Giovanna Woynarowska, Faithful Lay; born on 10 May 1923 in Piwniczna (Poland) and died on 24 November 1979 in Krakow (Poland).
The Supreme Pontiff also approved the favorable votes of the Ordinary Session of the Cardinals and Bishops for the canonization of Blessed Giovanni Battista Scalabrini, Bishop of Piacenza, Founder of the Congregation of the Missionaries of San Carlo and of the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of San Carlo Borromeo , born in Fino Mornasco (Italy) on 8 July 1839 and died on 1 June 1905 in Piacenza (Italy), and has decided to convene a consistory, which will also concern the canonization of Blessed Artemide Zatti. Artemide Zatti, an Italian layman who emigrated with his family to Argentina in the late 1800s, and who became a Salesian co-worker and missionary in Patagonia.
