Extraordinary Form of the Latin Mass to Cease in Savannah, Georgia, in 2023 According to Vatican's Letter to Bishop Stephen D. Parkes
The Diocese of Savannah, Georgia, USA, has announced that Latin Masses in the Extraordinary Form will end in May, 2023. Bishop Stephen D. Parkes of Savannah announced this cessation was at the request of the Vatican. Pope Francis issued a motu proprio entitled Traditionis custodes, which offered guidelines for the celebration of the Eucharist according to the Missale Romanum of 1962. Bishop Stephen wrote to the Congregation for Divine Worship (now the Dicastery for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments) in mid-April to request permission for certain parishes to celebrate this Mass.
