On the 700th Anniversary of the Canonization of Saint Thomas Aquinas the Relic of his Skull to Travel

At the Dominican convent in Toulouse, on January 26, 2023, the relic of the skull of Saint Thomas Aquinas was transferred to a new reliquary. On the occasion of the opening of the VII centenary of the canonization of Saint Thomas (July 18, 1323) the relic of his skull was transferred to a new reliquary created by Mr. Augustin Frison-Roche. A unique event at the heart of the Dominican Convent in Toulouse: the changing of the reliquary of the head/skull of Saint Thomas Aquinas.
The possibility of attending the opening of a reliquary is rare, since it is sealed to guarantee the authenticity of its contents. The opening only occurs for major reasons requiring the renewal of the container. The ceremony took place in the sacristy of the Dominican Convent. The skull of Saint Thomas was therefore moved from its wooden reliquary to a copper reliquary created especially for this occasion by the artist Augustin Frison-Roche, painter and sculptor. January 28 will mark the opening of the jubilee of his canonization (1323-2023).   The reliquary will then leave for a great journey in France and abroad.
