Vatican Announces that the Emanuel Orlandi Case is Re-opened after Netflix Film Vatican Girl brings the Story to Light

The Vatican Promoter of Justice has opened an investigation into the case of Emanuela Orlandi, a teenage daughter of a Vatican employee who went missing in 1983.

In 2022, Netflix produced a documentary on the events surrounding the disappearance of Emanuela. (the Vatican did not mention the documentary as a reason for re-opening but requests from the family) This film brought the story of Emanuela to light for a broader public audience. Emanuela Orlandi (born 14 January 1968) was a Vatican teenager who mysteriously disappeared while returning home from a flute lesson in Rome on 22 June 1983.
Her father was a Vatican employee, and there has been great speculation over why she was kidnapped.
An investigation has been opened in the Vatican into the case of Emanuela Orlandi, the teenage daughter of a Vatican employee who vanished in Rome on 22 June 1983. The Holy See Press Office Director, Matteo Bruni, reported on Monday that the Vatican Promoter of Justice, Alessandro Diddi, has confirmed this decision, partly in response to several requests made by Ms. Orlandi's family.
