Burglars stole the beautiful pectoral cross of the late Pope Benedict XVI. stolen from the town church of St. Oswald in Traunstein. This was reported by the "BILD" and other news outlets. During the theft, which police say took place between 11:45 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on June 19th, the display case in a niche in the west facade of the church was broken open. The pectoral cross was commissioned by Pope Benedict XVI. bequeathed to his home parish in Bavaria after his retirement in 2013. Traunstein Mayor Christian Hümmer said to BILD about the incident: "I am appalled by yesterday's theft in our parish church of St. Oswald. The stolen pectoral cross of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI has great ideal value for the city and the city church of Traunstein."
