2 million meals from more than 1,000 catering establishments to feed more than half a million youth during the 37th World Youth Day.

The 37th World Youth Day will take place from August 1st to 6th in Lisbon/Portugal under the motto "Mary arose and set out in haste" (Lk 1:39). To date, around 600,000 pilgrims from 184 countries have registered for WYD, the actual number of youth and young adults taking part in WYD is estimated to be far higher. According to the official WYD information, most pilgrims are said to come from Spain, Italy and Portugal, France, Poland and the USA. In addition, more than 20,000 people have registered as volunteers for WYD 2023, including doctors, nurses and students. The youth and young adults will also be provided with more than two million meals from more than 1,000 catering establishments.
In addition to the central events, such as the country meetings, catechesis and papal masses, the WYD in Lisbon offers over 200 other activities, including music events, dance, theater and sports tournaments. Another high number reported by WYD organizers is the 6,753 trees planted worldwide on behalf of WYD Lisbon 2023 in partnership with the Global Tree Initiative (GTI). They are said to be in Spain, France, India, Australia, Angola, Guinea and Brazil. As for accommodation, the parishes of the host dioceses - Lisbon, Setúbal and Santarém - have already registered 6,000 families who will make their homes available to the pilgrims. For collective accommodation, the organization has prepared 400,000 places in the host dioceses and is still negotiating the signing of protocols with city governments and other municipal bodies in various locations. The official World Youth Day anthem entitled "Há Pressa no Ar" is available not only in the language of the host country - 2023 Portuguese - but also in the official languages of World Youth Day, namely English, French, Italian and Spanish. It has also been translated into nine other languages, including German, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Korean, Indonesian, Arabic and Portuguese Sign Language. The original anthem entitled "Ha Pressa no Ar" ("There's a rush in the air") was released in January 2021. It is intended to commemorate the visit of Mary, the mother of God, to Elisabeth, who according to biblical tradition was the mother of John the Baptist.
