Pope Francis receives the President of Ghana, Africa His Excellency Mr. Nana Addo Akufo-Addo at the Vatican



Today, 22 July 2023, in the study of the Paul VI Hall, the Holy Father Francis received in audience the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Mr. Nana Addo Akufo-Addo, who subsequently met with His Eminence Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, accompanied by His Excellency Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.

During the cordial talks, held in the Secretariat of State, the good relations between the Holy See and Ghana were highlighted, and some aspects of the political and socio-economic situation of the country were discussed, especially the collaboration in the fields of education and healthcare.

An exchange of opinions on current international affairs then followed, with particular reference to the problems of peace in the world and security in the countries of West Africa.

Ghana is a religious country. According to the 2021 census, about 71% of the population is Christian and 18% Muslim.
