Pope Francis Meets with Russia's New Ambassador to the Holy See, Mr. Ivan Soltanovsky, at the Vatican - VIDEO



On the morning of September 18, in the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican, Pope Francis accepted the credentials of the new Ambassador of the Russian Federation accredited to the Holy See, Mr. Ivan Soltanovsky.

The communiqué about the private audience with the pope, as well as brief biographical information about the new ambassador, was later published by the Vatican Press office.

Ivan Soltanovsky was born in 1955, married and has a daughter. Graduated from the Moscow State University of International Relations of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1977, he entered the diplomatic service and held positions at the Consulates General in Karachi (Pakistan) and Calcutta (India), at the Embassy in India, and at the Permanent Mission of Russia to the OSCE. He was also Deputy Permanent Representative to NATO in Brussels and Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the Council of Europe (from 2015 to 2022).

From 2013 to 2023, the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Holy See was held by Alexander Avdeev.
