#BreakingNews 2 Catholic Churches in Chile are Badly Damaged by Arson Attacks

Two Catholic Churches in Chile were hit by intentional fires. Authorities found a bottle with flammable liquid inside the chapel of San Alberto Hurtado. The chapel of San Alberto Hurtado, belonging to the archdiocese of Concepción, and the parish of San José, in the diocese of Linares, were burned at the beginning of October 2023. According to sources from the episcopal headquarters of Concepción, the chapel began to burn around midnight last Sunday, October 1st. According to local press, the presidential delegate in the region, Daniela Dresdner , reported that a bottle with flammable liquid had been found inside the chapel of San Alberto Hurtado. As indicated, they are still investigating to find those responsible.
The bishop of San Ambrosio de Linares, Tomislav Koljatic, wrote in a statement of his deep pain at the "arson attack suffered in the San José de Constitución parish."
Koljatic explains in the letter that the fire took place last Sunday morning and "affected part of the altar, pews and some articles used in worship." The diocese points out that events like this "attack freedom of worship, a fundamental right that must be protected." «Thanks to God, and to the timely threat of the fire by parishioners and firefighters of the city, there are no victims or serious damages to report. All the information has been placed in the hands of the Police, who we hope will soon issue an official report," the statement added. Last Tuesday, October 4, the police arrested the instigator of the fire in San José. Police sources have indicated that he has no criminal record and that he confessed after being arrested.

We regret to report that the Chapel of San Alberto Hurtado, belonging to the Parish of San Jose de Curanilahue, was totally destroyed due to an intentional fire.
The incident happened around midnight on Sunday October 1st in the San Jose de Colico sector. In addition to the chapel, where a community of close to 50 people participates, a winery and a social headquarters were also affected.
The Auxiliary Bishop of Conception and Parish of San Jose de Curanilahue, Monsignor Oscar Garcia, immediately arrived to the place to accompany the community in this difficult time and encouraged them to keep hope alive, not give up and have faith, beyond the pain involved burning infrastructure, "because there is history and also life, because there are so many people who gave themselves to the service of building it and who have been and are part of the community".
We lift our prayers and extend our support to the affected community
