Ex-Muslim, ex-atheist, women's rights activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali turns to Christianity
Ayaan Hirsi Ali, (age 54 years), is a Somali-born Dutch-American activist and former politician. She is a critic of Islam and advocate for the rights and self-determination of Muslim women, opposing forced marriage, honour killing, child marriage, and female genital mutilation.
“Western civilization is threatened by three forces: authoritarianism and expansionism of the great powers (CP China and Vladimir Putin's Russia); Global Islamism, woke ideology”, only the Judeo-Christian tradition has a credible answer.
“Western civilization is threatened by three distinct but interrelated forces: the resurgence of major power authoritarianism and expansionism in the form of the Chinese Communist Party and Vladimir Putin's Russia; the rise of global Islamism, which threatens to mobilize large populations against the West; and the viral spread of woke ideology, which is eating into the morals of the next generation.” This is what the internationally known ex-Muslim, Dutch-American politician, political scientist and women’s rights activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali writes on the US portal “UnHeard”. To combat these powerful forces, the answer “God is dead” is not enough, she continues, and atheism is not enough for the clash of civilizations. “The only credible answer, in my opinion, lies in our desire to maintain the legacy of the Judeo-Christian tradition.”
The native Somali and now US citizen first turned from moderate to extreme Islam, then became an atheist and had people like Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins in her close circle of acquaintances. The campaigner against female circumcision was subjected to this procedure as a child. She has been considered a prominent critic of Islam for many years.
She also left atheism behind: “I turned to Christianity because I ultimately found a life without spiritual comfort unbearable – almost self-destructive. Atheism could not answer a simple question: What is the meaning and purpose of life?”
She continues: “Russell and other atheism activists believed that by rejecting God we would enter an age of reason and intelligent humanism. But the 'God gap' - the void left by the church's retreat - has only been filled by a jumble of irrational quasi-religious dogmas. The result is a world in which modern cults exploit the dislocated masses and offer them false reasons for being and acting - usually by engaging in virtue theater on behalf of a victimized minority or our supposedly doomed planet."
But fortunately there is “no need to look for a new age blend. Christianity has everything.”
The political scientist speaks of a “nihilistic vacuum” and warns: “We cannot resist China, Russia and Iran if we cannot explain to our people why it is important that we do it. We cannot fight woke ideology if we cannot defend the civilization it seeks to destroy. And we cannot counter Islamism with purely secular means. To win the hearts and minds of Muslims here in the West, we must offer them more than just videos on TikTok.”
“Of course I still have a lot to learn about Christianity. Every Sunday I discover something new in church. But I have come to realize, in my own long journey through a wilderness of fear and self-doubt, that there is a better way to deal with the challenges of existence than either Islam or unbelief had to offer.
According to previously unconfirmed evidence, Hirsi Ali appears to have turned to the Catholic Church.
