In Poland, 3 million faithful took to the streets in remembrance of Jesus' birth, as they celebrated and sung Christmas carols - The Epiphany Parade in Warsaw is the largest street nativity play in the world
“I bless the participants of the great Epiphany parade that takes place in Warsaw and many Polish cities,” said Pope Francis after the Angelus prayer. On Epiphany on January 6, the Epiphany Parade took place through the streets of almost 900 cities in Poland. This is a record in the event's history to date.
Around 900 Epiphany parades were organized in Poland, but parades also took place in Germany, France, Spain, the Philippines, the USA, and Africa. In Poland, three million believers took to the streets to praise Jesus, celebrate and sing Christmas carols. This year the motto of the event was “He lies in the manger!”, which is a line from a Christmas carol. The Epiphany Parade is the largest street nativity play in the world and takes place eight hundred years after the first nativity play of Saint Francis in Greccio, Italy.

While marching in the parade, participants walk from a selected beginning point to the Nativity scene while singing Christmas carols. 3 actors play the Holy Family and the Magi from three continents: Asia, Africa and Europe. The star-bearer and the Magi lead the parade, accompanied by children dressed as knights and ladies-in-waiting. Faithful of the city or village also join the parade wearing crowns and singing Christmas carols from song books from the organizing foundation.

After the Angelus prayer, the Warsaw March started at midday under the Nicholas Copernicus monument. They continued along Krakowskie Przedmieście Street to the Royal Castle Square, where the Adoration of the Kings and the presentation of gifts took place. As every year, the Epiphany parade was accompanied by competitions for children, young people and entire families, including an art, nativity scene and poetry competition. At the end, all participants sang Christmas carols together.

The parade has been taking place in 23 countries for 16 years. The Polish foreign community and missionaries are also involved in the organization. The Epiphany Parade Foundation, which started this tradition in 2005, is the organizer of the largest street nativity play in the world - the Epiphany Parade in Warsaw.
The solemnity of the Epiphany — which recalls the Magi’s visit to Jesus and, through their worship, Christ made himself known as Savior of the world — is a national holiday in Poland, a country of 27 million Catholics, 71% of the population. In 2023, 1.5 million people marched the Three Kings Parades in 750 cities around Poland and the world. Sources: OSV News - Kath.net and the Bishops' Conference of Poland on X
