Vatican's Archbishop Paul Gallagher is Received by Jordan's King Abdullah II who Sent Aid to Gaza's Catholic Church



Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Vatican Secretary for Relations with States, arrives in Jordan for a four-day visit which includes Mass with Bishops of the Holy Land and meetings with King Abdullah II and the Commissioner-General of UNRWA.
The Vatican Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations’ visit to Jordan takes place on March 11-14 and marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of full diplomatic relations between Jordan and the Holy See. The King of Jordan has sent various parcels of aid including food and medicines to the Catholic parish in Gaza, sheltering hundreds of Christians. (See Video below from November) The Archbishop is also scheduled to visit the Hashemite Charitable Organization, a center for collecting humanitarian aid sent from Jordan to the Gaza Strip.


Later in the day, he will celebrate Mass with Catholic Bishops from across the Holy Land and with Catholic communities in Jordan at the Church of Saint Mary of Nazareth in Sweifah, Amman.

His Majesty King Abdullah II received at Al-Husseiniya Palace, on Monday, the Secretary of State of the Vatican City for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, where His Majesty Bishop Gallagher conveyed his greetings to His Holiness Pope Francis, stressing the depth of the distinguished relations between Jordan and the Vatican .
The meeting discussed the dangerous developments in Gaza, as His Majesty the King stressed the importance of reaching a ceasefire and ensuring the delivery of aid in sufficient quantities and by all possible means .In the meeting, which was attended by His Highness Prince Ghazi bin Mohammed, Chief Advisor to His Majesty the King for Religious and Cultural Affairs and His Majesty’s Personal Envoy, His Majesty warned of the need to stop Israeli violations and settler attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, warning of any explosion of the situation there, which would have serious repercussions. Calling for the unification of the positions of the Christian churches in preserving the existing historical and legal status in the Holy City .
For his part, the Secretary of State of the Vatican City for Relations with States appreciated Jordan's role in protecting and caring for the holy sites in Jerusalem, within the framework of the Hashemite custodianship over them . He expressed the Vatican's desire to contribute to efforts to support the humanitarian response in Gaza and provide relief and medical aid to the Strip .
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, Director of His Majesty’s Office, Dr. Jaafar Hassan, the Apostolic Nuncio to Jordan, Bishop Giovanni Pietro Dal Toso, and Monsignor Marco Fornica, acompanying the Archbishop on his visit.
