WHY THIS COURSE?
I’ve noticed more and more over the last few years the growing questions of music ministers and directors, whether paid or volunteer, but nowhere to really turn for help. There are other classes from bigger publishers, but they push their agenda in order to sell their product. There are facebook groups, but much of the time they are biased one way or another. My goal is to give you a fair and unbiased course, whether you come from a traditional or contemporary Parish. To provide you with resources that will help your journey as a director or volunteer be easier and more fruitful.
This course is also meant to be for your entire team. If you decide to join us, any of your musicians, choir members, volunteers would be welcome to attend and reap the benefits.
Some of the Topics We’ll Cover…
The Liturgy - We’ll take a walk though the different parts of the Mass, and talk about what our ministry’s role in the Liturgy is.
Music Selection - How do we pick the right music? Contemporary or Traditional? We’ll talk about resources to help guide you in picking music.
Singing Songs vs Leading Worship - Is there a difference? What does that mean for our ministry, and what is our role as spiritual leaders in our ministry.
Being a part of Parish Staff - Do you work alone, seemingly outside of the rest of the staff?? How do we be a better part of the team in achieving the vision of the Parish.
Sound and A/V - hen you look at a soundboard do you feel like you’re looking at a spaceship? We’ll cover the basics of mixers, mics, and other a/v equipment and help to de-mystify them.
Holy Hours & Worship Nights - How to successfully implement Eucharistic Adoration with worship into your Parish. We’ll talk songs, environment, rubrics for Adoration, etc.
About Jon Niven
I'm currently the music director at St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Naples, FL., but I've had the immense blessing of being involved in music ministry for over 25 years, and have travelled the world to serve different communities. I started serving the Church at the young age of 9 at St. Bernadette’s Parish in Randolph, Massachusetts and since then, I've served the Steubenville Conferences as Worship Leader for over 10 years, LifeTeen Conferences and Camps, have played at more than half a dozen World Youth Day Events, travelled with Chris Stefanick for many years, and now have settled down as a FT music director with my wonderful family in SWFL.
