In 2016, there was a consecration of the continent Africa to the Divine Mercy, which included a focus on Rwanda. This consecration was part of the Jubilee Year of Mercy declared by Pope Francis, and aimed to help Africans come to terms with the message of mercy and the idea that God can transform evil into good.
Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, announced the initiative in an April 11 letter addressed to fellow bishops and the Catholic community.
He described the consecration as a “collective response of faith and hope” amid what he called grave challenges facing the country and the global community. his Jubilee year 2025 is turning out to be a very holy year.   The Consecration Prayer will be prayed at all Masses following the Creed in place of the General Intercessions.

This National Consecration to the Divine Mercy is an unprecedented act. It will be the first time any nation has consecrated itself to the Divine Mercy.  David said, "This national act of consecration is intended as a collective response of faith and hope in the face of many grave challenges confronting our people and the world today. This nationwide consecration will be a profound expression of our trust in the Divine Mercy a trust that remains our final refuge in these times of uncertainty and trial." Unprecedented times call for unprecedented actions. These, according to him, include the threat of global conflict, widespread corruption, the erosion of truth, and increasing opposition to Church teachings on life and family. In doing so, He will pour out treasures of grace upon us
Amazing graces
In the past, countries that have made a consecration have been blessed with amazing graces. In 1874, Ecuador was the first country to be consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. After the consecration, the country was strengthened in their Catholic identity, becoming a predominantly Cath olic nation centerod around Christ the King. Then, the gov ernment constructed a National Basilica, Finally, there was a much stronger union between Church and State similarly, in 1931. Portu-gal was consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Afterwards, the country experienced a resurgence in their Catholic faith. “This nationwide consecration will be a profound expression of our trust in the Divine Mercy—a trust that remains our final refuge in these times of uncertainty and trial,” David said.
The consecration will take place during all Masses across the country on Divine Mercy Sunday, which falls on the second Sunday of Easter.
The Prayer of Consecration to the Divine Mercy will be recited in place of the General Intercessions:
NATIONAL CONSECRATION TO THE DIVINE MERCY
(To be prayed in all Masses on the Second Sunday of Easter, in place of the General Intercessions)
Most Merciful Jesus, You are the Face of the Father’s Mercy.
Out of mercy you have called us. To be merciful like the Father
is the mission you have entrusted to us. With complete trust and confidence in your boundless ocean of love, we consecrate ourselves entirely to you and place ourselves under the protection of your merciful care. We unite ourselves to your perfect offering, with the Holy Spirit, to the Father,
that we may be completely transformed into Your Mercy.
Have mercy on us for the wars among nations and terrors with which we harass one another.
Have mercy on us for the widespread sins against truth and gruesome sins against justice and human brotherhood. Have mercy on us for the blasphemies to which Your Divine Mercy is subjected to
and the abominable mockery of the weak and the poor. Have mercy on us for the abuses against human dignity, sins against life, love and family. Help us, O Lord, that we may reflect Your Mercy to those around us. Guard us as your possession, that in difficult moments we may not despair,
but with great confidence submit ourselves to your holy will. Make us instruments of consolation to others who have lost hope and do not trust in Your Mercy. May all people come to know Your unfathomable mercy, trust in your mercy and glorify Your Mercy forever and ever.
Jesus, King of Mercy, we trust in You. We are all yours. Amen

The cardinal encouraged all dioceses, parishes, religious communities, and Catholic institutions to participate in the spiritual initiative. “Together, let us entrust ourselves, our Church, and our nation to the boundless mercy of God, confident that in His mercy we will find the healing, renewal, and hope we so deeply need,” he added. Divine Mercy Sunday was established by Pope John Paul II in 2000 during the canonization of St. Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun and mystic whose visions inspired the devotion. It has been celebrated annually on the second Sunday of Easter since 2001 and has become a significant day of prayer and devotion for Catholics worldwide.
