Pope Leo XIV says "I thank you from the bottom of my heart” and Prays at St Mary Major Basilica - FULL TEXT + Video

Following Mass at the Basilica of St. John Lateran, Pope Leo XIV visited the Basilica of Saint Mary Major. There, he prayed in the Pauline Chapel before the icon of Salus Populi Romani (Salvation of the Roman People), an ancient sacred image of Our Lady and the baby Jesus, before which many Pontiffs, including Pope Francis, have entrusted the Church’s needs.
He brought flowers to the ancient Marian icon and chanting the Magnificat, the Pope then paused to pray at the tomb of his predecessor, Pope Francis, who is buried in the same basilica.

The Holy Father then stepped out onto the Basilica’s loggia to greet the faithful gathered outside. He began by extending his peace to everyone before expressing his gratitude for their presence. VISIT TO THE BASILICA OF SANTA MARIA MAGGIORE

Brothers and sisters, peace be with you!
Good evening everyone. Thank you for being here! Thank you for being here, in front of this Basilica, this afternoon, this evening, when we celebrate, all gathered together, as members of the Diocese of Rome, the presence of its new Bishop. I am very happy to find all of you here and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I thank all those who work in this Basilica, the two Cardinals who accompany me this evening and the many people who are dedicated to helping us live our life of prayer, of devotion, and who above all help us to draw closer to the Mother of Jesus, to the Mother of God, Mary Most Holy. It is a beautiful opportunity to renew this devotion to Mary, Salus Popoli Romani, who has accompanied the people of Rome so many times in their needs.
Let us ask God, through the intercession of his Mother, to bless all of you, your families, your loved ones and to help us all to walk together in the Church, united as the one family of God.
Let us say together:
[Hail Mary, full of Grace…]
[Blessing]
Good evening to all and many thanks!
