On June 30, 2025, at approximately 5:45 a.m., Father Dr. Héctor Alejandro Pérez, Parish Priest of St. Francis of Assis, Gaviotas Sur, Villahermosa, Tab., was attacked with a firearm, wrote the Diocese Tabasco on their official Facebook Page. (LINK: https://www.facebook.com/DiocesisdeTabascoOficial)
It is believed that the attack was due to a mistake with someone else. Father Héctor was leaving his parish house to care for a sick person at home.
Father Héctor's condition at the end of surgery at 12:52 p.m. was reported as very serious, with a guarded prognosis due to blood loss and the complexity of his internal injuries.
The Mexican Episcopal Conference wrote that it expresses its profound consternation and fraternal closeness in response to the cowardly armed attack perpetrated against Father Héctor Pérez, parish priest of the Church of San Francisco de Asís, who was shot while visiting a sick person in the Gaviotas Sur neighborhood of Villahermosa, Tabasco.
The Diocese Released a July 1 Health status of Father Héctor Alejandro Pérez
• A catheter was inserted last night, allowing him to receive IV fluids, medications, and various solutions for his recovery.
• He is not intubated; he only uses a mask to oxygenate his lungs.
•His condition remains very delicate due to the injuries he received, but is stable within its severity, meaning there are no signs that his condition could worsen.
He is showing a slow improvement.
• The most delicate aspect at this time is the situation with his intestines, as healing will take a week and 15 days.
We are grateful for all your prayers and supplications to the Eternal Father for the health of our brother priest, and for the repentance and conversion of those who perpetrated this violent act.
