Pope Leo the fourteenth gave a brief speech saying;
Maybe just two words.
Many of you have already heard me this morning at Holy Mass , but it comes to mind—I would first like to share that gesture, so significant for all of us, which is the breaking of bread , breaking bread together, the gesture with which we recognize Jesus Christ among his followers; it is the Holy Mass, but it is also being together around the table, sharing the gifts the Lord has given us.
I thank everyone at Diocesan Caritas, Your Excellency, for this welcome, this opportunity to share in such a beautiful place. It reminds us of the beauty of nature, of creation, but also makes us think that the most beautiful creature is the one created in the likeness, in the image of God, which is all of us. And each of us, in this sense, represents that image of God, and how important it is to always remember that we find this very presence of God in each of us. And so, too, being gathered here this afternoon, at this lunch, is living together with God, in this communion, in this fraternity.
Many thanks to all of you present. And now we ask the Lord's blessing on the gifts we will receive, on all those who worked to bring us this lunch, on the gifts we share—Borgo Laudato Si' and so many others—that make this beautiful celebration possible.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Bless us, O Lord, and these gifts we receive from Your Providence. Help us to always live united in Your love, You who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.
Bon appetit everyone!
