Hundreds of Priests and 7 Bishops Create "Priests Against Genocide" with a Prayer Event on September 22

PCG - Catholic priests from all over Italy and other countries around the world have created the “Priests Against Genocide” network (Preti Contro il Genocidio), an initiative born to respond to the crimes of the state of Israel against the Palestinian population in Gaza and the Occupied Territories.
Catholic priests launch an appeal to the Church and civil society: Stop the genocide in Gaza. "War is always a defeat" (Pope Francis).
Over 550 priests from 21 countries — the majority of them Italian — have signed on to the initiative. Seven bishops from around the world, including the archbishop of Rabat, Morocco, Cardinal Cristóbal López Romero, have also joined.
The promoters explain that the new network aims to be a prophetic and unified voice for the Church , capable of bringing together the many initiatives of denunciation and solidarity already present in communities. "We are not against anyone, but for every human life," the promoters state. "We cannot remain silent in the face of massacres, violence, and violations of international law."

Clear objectives and concrete actions

The network's founding document (see Attachment) identifies some key points:Peace and reconciliation : proclaiming the Gospel of a “disarmed and disarming” peace, as Pope Leo XIV defines it.
Protection of victims and international law : denouncing war crimes, genocide, and ethnic cleansing, demanding compliance with UN resolutions and rulings of the International Criminal Court.
Support for Christian communities in the Holy Land
Truth and Accountability : Promote independent investigations into the events of October 7, 2023; remember the Nakba of 1948, with the forcible removal of over 700,000 Palestinians from their land; recognize the occupation and apartheid regime implemented by the State of Israel in Palestine; and expose Israeli media propaganda aimed at tolerating, denying, or even accepting the ongoing genocide against the Palestinians;

The network has already announced the first initiatives:
-a public declaration signed by priests and bishops
-awareness-raising activities in parishes
-ecumenical and interreligious collaborations and a national meeting in Rome .

EVENT September 22, 2025

The first public event will be a prayer vigil and testimony in Rome on September 22, 2025 , on the eve of the final phase of the United Nations General Assembly. It will be a moment of reflection, prophetic denunciation, and commitment to peace. Other brother priests, ecclesial communities, associations, and citizens are invited to attend.

The invitation to sign the document

We invite our brother priests to join this movement by signing the network's document.

"It's a simple gesture," the promoters emphasize, "but it can become a prophetic sign, a collective voice of the Church and civil society against the logic of war and violence."
