“That consecrated bread is the Church’s immeasurable treasure” - His Eminence Giorgi Cardinal Marengo
In his powerful address at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Cardinal Marengo reflects on the Eucharist as the Church’s “immeasurable treasure,” the real presence of Christ among His people. Through a moving story from early Catholic life in Mongolia, he illustrates how even in poverty and obscurity, the Eucharist stands at the center of the Church’s life and mission. He connects the sacrament to the mystery of the Incarnation, showing how Christ continues to dwell among us and send us forth in love. Drawing on Scripture, particularly the Road to Emmaus, Cardinal Marengo invites us to echo the disciples’ plea, “Stay with us, Lord,” and to let the Eucharist transform the rhythm of our daily lives. He also highlights how Eucharistic devotion has sparked renewal across the globe—from Mongolia to Australia—and points to modern witnesses like Saint Carlo Acutis, whose love for the Eucharist became a light for the digital age. Finally, he reminds us that true adoration always leads to action, sharing examples like the House of Mercy in Ulaanbaatar, where worship overflows into tangible care for the poor, the sick, and the lonely.
