Bishop of Rhode Island Prays for the Victims of the Brown University Shooting that Left 2 Students Dead - RIP



On December 13, 2025, a mass shooting occurred at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, United States. Two students were killed and nine other people were wounded during the attack at a final exam review session. The university had a total enrollment of approximately 11,500 students in 2023.
At approximately 4:05 p.m. EST on December 13, 2025, a shooting occurred inside a room on the first floor of the Brown University School of Engineering's Building.
Providence mayor Brett Smiley confirmed that two people were killed and nine others were injured. According to Brown University president Christina Paxson, at least eight victims, including the two dead, were students. The two students who were killed, included Ella Cook (pictured left), the vice president of the University College Republicans, and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, according to school and community groups. The American Uzbekistan Association confirmed Umurzokov was also killed in the shooting, describing him as a thoughtful and compassionate member of the community.“
A law enforcement official said two handguns were in police possession following the apprehension of the person of interest.
Suspect
A lone suspect was described by the Providence Police Department as a male dressed in all black, or dark gray.

Let us unite in prayer for those who lost their lives, for the injured, for the Brown University community and all affected by this tragedy.
May God continue to guide our elected officials, law enforcement, and first responders as they work to keep everyone safe.
