  • Event: The project was jointly developed by the Secretariat of State and the Dicastery for Communication.

  • Presentation: Recently presented to Pope Leo XIV.

  • Key Attendees: Accompanied by Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra (Substitute of the Secretariat of State) and Msgr. Lucio Adrián Ruiz (Secretary of the Dicastery for Communication), Pope Leo made the first login.

  • Pope Leo's Comment: He expressed thanks for the work, noting it "will be of great use for many who work in the service of the Church." He encouraged them “to continue with this spirit of service, so that what is born with care and attention may, in time, become an even greater help.”

📖 Historical Context and Modernization

  • Historical Heir: The Yearbook is the heir to the medieval Liber Pontificalis (a collection of papal biographies).

  • Significance: This digital shift marks a significant step in updating and modernizing the information tools for the universal Church.

📊 Content and Core Benefits

  • Available Data: The platform offers information on Dicasteries of the Roman Curia, Dioceses, Religious Institutes, and Apostolic Nunciatures.

  • Overcoming Limits: Access from any device overcomes the logistical limitations of the printed volume, making the Holy See's informational patrimony consultable.

  • Timeliness: Information (e.g., new appointments, changes in office, modifications to ecclesial structures) can now be reflected online in short order, no longer waiting for the next printed edition.

  • Advanced Search: Users can utilize advanced search functions to filter data by name, diocese, office/role, country, or institutional area.

  • Official Authority: The platform serves as an authoritative reference for journalists and communication professionals, offering certified content and reliable, verified information.

🤝 Project Roles and Future Development

  • Coordination: The Secretariat of State assumed overall coordination, defining institutional requirements.

  • Technical Development: The Dicastery for Communication (Technology Office) was responsible for the technical development and creation of the database.

  • Evolving Project: The digital Yearbook is conceived as an evolving project.

  • Future Plans: Future developments include the recovery and integration of historical information from archives and earlier printed editions.

  • The Secretariat of State invites all those who will use the platform to contribute actively to its refinement, by sending observations and suggestions to improve the service to the address: annuariopontificio@sds.va

The platform is available at https://www.annuariopontificio.catholic/

It can also be accessed via a dedicated app for iOS and Android. Users must either register on the web version or download the app through the App Store or Google Store.

The digital Pontifical Yearbook operates on a subscription system with two plans, both of which guarantee continuous access to the database and the daily data updates.
