Led by president Lila Rose and supported by several members of Congress, the report claims that the FDA and HHS have allowed "regulatory failures" by permitting the drug to be prescribed via telehealth and sent through the mail.

  • Allegations of Negligence: Live Action claims Planned Parenthood acts as a "drug dispensary" rather than a medical provider, allegedly skipping gestational age checks and follow-up care.

  • Data Discrepancy: The report cites an analysis suggesting a 11% rate of serious adverse events (such as sepsis and hemorrhage), which they argue is 22 times higher than the rate listed on current FDA labels.

  • Safety Risks: Critics at the press conference, including Reps. Michael Cloud and Andy Biggs, warned that mail-order access enables abusers to secretly drug women and forces emergency rooms to manage complications often miscoded as natural miscarriages.

  • Legislative Demands: Live Action is formally requesting that HHS and the FDA:

    1. Suspend mifepristone’s use as an abortifacient.

    2. Prohibit mail-order and telehealth distribution.

    3. Mandate in-person medical evaluations and stricter adverse-event reporting.

The investigation, which included a series of undercover calls to Planned Parenthood facilities, alleges that providers often bypass critical safety screenings, such as ultrasounds and checks for contraindications. Live Action further claims that complication rates are significantly underreported because women are often advised to seek ER care without disclosing the use of the pill. The organization is now calling on federal agencies to suspend the drug's approval for abortion and reinstate strict in-person medical requirements.
