Pope Leo XIV to Embark on Lenten Parish Pilgrimage Across Rome
Pope Leo XIV is set to deepen his connection with the Eternal City this Lent. The Vicariate of Rome has announced a series of pastoral visits that will see the Pontiff visiting five different parishes—one for each Sunday of the liturgical season—spanning the diverse pastoral regions of his diocese.
The journey kicks off formally on Thursday, February 19, when the Pope meets with the Roman clergy just one day after Ash Wednesday.
A "True Pastoral" Approach
Cardinal Baldo Reina, the Vicar General of Rome, emphasized that these aren't merely ceremonial stops. The goal is direct engagement.
"They will be true pastoral visits," Cardinal Reina noted. "Pope Leo XIV will meet with various parish groups, including pastoral workers and young people."
Each visit will conclude with the Pope celebrating Mass alongside the entire local community, offering a moment of spiritual unity during the Lenten journey.
The Visitation Schedule
The Pope will traverse the city to ensure representation from the North, South, East, West, and Central sectors:
| Date | Parish | Region |
| Feb 15 | Holy Mary Queen of Peace (Ostia Lido) | Southern |
| Feb 22 | Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (Castro Pretorio) | Central |
| March 1 | Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ | Eastern |
| March 8 | Our Lady of the Presentation | Western |
| March 15 | Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (Ponte Mammolo) | Northern |
Continuing a Papal Tradition
By visiting these communities, Pope Leo XIV follows in the footsteps of his predecessors, reinforcing the bond between the Bishop of Rome and his flock. Cardinal Reina expressed the diocese's enthusiasm, calling the visits a "source of great joy" and a vital opportunity to align the city's pastoral plan with the Pope's vision.
