Pope Leo XIV has Chosen the 6th World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly Theme “I will never forget you”

Pope Leo XIV has chosen “I will never forget you” (Is 49:15) as the theme for the Sixth World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, said the Vatican's Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life in a statement.
World Day of Grandparents and Elderly People, established by Pope Francis in 2021, is celebrated every fourth Sunday in July and is an opportunity to extend the Church's closeness to older people and to recognize their contribution to families and communities. This year, the date coincides with the feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, Sunday, July 26, and the Holy Father invites everyone to celebrate the Day with a Eucharistic liturgy in the Cathedral Church of each diocese.
“But I will never forget you” ( Is 49:15) is the theme chosen by Pope Leo XIV for the VI World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly, with which he intends to underline how God's love for every person never fails, not even in the fragility of old age.
Taken from the book of the prophet Isaiah, the chosen verse is intended to be a message of consolation and hope for all grandparents and the elderly, especially those who live alone or feel forgotten. At the same time, it is a reminder to families and ecclesial communities not to forget them, recognizing in them a precious presence and a blessing.
The Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life urges particular Churches, associations and ecclesial communities throughout the world to find ways to promote the Day in their local context and will subsequently make available some specific pastoral tools for this purpose.
