Vatican Releases Pope Leo XIV's Updated Liturgical Celebration Schedule of Lent, Holy Week, and Easter Triduum 2026


The Vatican has released an updated liturgical calendar for Pope Leo XIV, organized for easy reference as he moves through the Lenten season toward Easter Sunday.

 Parish Pastoral Visits

Pope Leo XIV will visit five Roman parishes, primarily in the city's outlying areas. Most visits feature a 5:00 p.m. Mass, with one exception.

Lenten Observances & Spiritual Exercises

The Holy Father begins the season of penance with traditional processions and a period of deep reflection with the Roman Curia.

    • Afternoon Mass at the Basilica of Saint Sabina.

  • February 22 – 27: * Annual Lenten Spiritual Exercises held within the Apostolic Palace.

Palm Sunday & Holy Thursday

  • March 29 (Palm Sunday): Morning Mass in St. Peter’s Square.

  • April 2 (Holy Thursday): * Morning: Chrism Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica.

    • Evening: Mass of the Lord's Supper at the Basilica of St. John Lateran.

The Passion & The Resurrection

  • April 3 (Good Friday): * Liturgical celebration of the Passion of the Lord (St. Peter's).

    • Nighttime Way of the Cross at the Colosseum.

  • April 4 (Holy Saturday): * Easter Vigil Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica.

  • April 5 (Easter Sunday): * Morning Mass of the Resurrection in St. Peter’s Square.

    • Urbi et Orbi blessing from the central Loggia of the Basilica.
