Manila Archdiocese Unveils New Hub for Exorcism and Healing
In response to a growing number of people seeking help for "spiritual distress," the Archdiocese of Manila officially opened the St. Michael Center for Spiritual Liberation in Makati City. The facility was blessed by Cardinal Jose Advincula on February 23, 2026.
A Mission Beyond Architecture
Cardinal Advincula emphasized that the new center is more than just a physical space for the Ministry of Exorcism. During the ceremony, he noted:
“This is not merely the inauguration of a building. It is the consecration of a mission.”
The center is named after Saint Michael the Archangel, the traditional patron invoked for protection against evil. It will serve as the primary headquarters for the archdiocese’s exorcists and spiritual liberation teams.
Understanding the Rise in Cases
Fr. Jose Francisco Syquia, Manila’s chief exorcist, highlighted a pressing need for the facility, noting that the Office of Exorcism currently handles about two cases per day.
Growing Demand: Cases of "diabolical oppression, obsession, and possession" are reportedly on the rise.
The Primary Goal: Fr. Syquia clarified that the ministry's work isn't just about the supernatural:
“It is not simply about driving out the demon, but more specially to reanimate the relationship that the person has with God.”
The Importance of Discernment
While acknowledging the reality of spiritual warfare, Cardinal Advincula urged a balanced approach, reminding the faithful that not every struggle is supernatural in origin.
“Not all suffering is demonic. Not all struggle requires exorcism.”
He also connected the concept of "liberation" to the modern world's challenges with truth, stating that in an age of misinformation, “liberation must include the purification of speech and communication.”
Future Impact
The St. Michael Center is set to become a regional pillar for the Church, offering:
Formation & Training: Training for clergy across Asia who are engaged in exorcism ministries.
Pastoral Accompaniment: A dedicated space for prayer and healing for those in spiritual crisis.
Spiritual Support: Affirming the Church's belief that “The Blood of the Lamb has already won the decisive victory.”
