Vatican Releases Itinerary of Pope Leo XIV's Historic 1st Papal Trip to Africa Visiting 4 Countries


The Holy See Press Office has officially detailed the itinerary for Pope Leo XIV’s Apostolic Journey to Africa, scheduled for April 13–23, 2026. This marks the third international trip of his pontificate, following a 2025 visit to the Middle East (Türkiye and Lebanon) and an upcoming trip to Monaco on March 28.

Across 11 days, the Pope will visit 11 cities, delivering 10 addresses, 8 homilies, and 6 greetings.

🇩🇿 Algeria: April 13 – April 15

  • Monday, April 13 (Algiers): * Arrival in the capital.

    • Visit to the Maqam Echahit Martyr’s Monument (Greeting).

    • Meeting with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune at the Presidential Palace.

    • Address to civil authorities and diplomats at the “Djamaa el Djazair” Conference Center.

    • Visit to the Great Mosque of Algiers.

    • Private visit to the Augustinian Missionary Sisters’ Welcome and Friendship Center in Bab El Oued.

    • Address to the Algerian community at the Basilica of Our Lady of Africa.

  • Tuesday, April 14 (Annaba & Algiers):

    • Flight to Annaba (ancient Hippo).

    • Visit to the archaeological site of Hippo and the Little Sisters of the Poor nursing home (Greeting).

    • Private meeting with the Augustinian Order.

    • Mass at the Basilica of St. Augustine.

    • Evening return flight to Algiers.

🇨🇲 Cameroon: April 15 – April 18

  • Wednesday, April 15 (Yaoundé):

    • Arrival in Yaoundé.

    • Meeting with President Paul Barthélemy Biya at the Presidential Palace.

    • Address to authorities at the Congress Center.

    • Visit to Ngul Zamba Orphanage (Greeting).

    • Private meeting with the Cameroonian Bishops.

  • Thursday, April 16 (Bamenda & Yaoundé):

    • Travel to Bamenda.

    • Peace meeting and address at St. Joseph’s Cathedral.

    • Mass at Bamenda International Airport.

    • Return to Yaoundé.

  • Friday, April 17 (Douala & Yaoundé):

    • Flight to Douala.

    • Mass at Japoma Stadium.

    • Arrival in Luanda.

    • Private meeting with the Angolan Bishops.

  • Sunday, April 19 (Kilamba & Muxima):

    • Mass in Kilamba.

    • Helicopter transfer to Muxima for the Rosary at the Mama Muxima shrine (Address).

    • Evening return to Luanda.

  • Monday, April 20 (Saurimo & Luanda):

    • Flight to Saurimo.

    • Visit to a nursing home (Greeting) and Mass at the Saurimo esplanade.

    • Return to Luanda for an address to clergy and pastoral workers at the Parish of Our Lady of Fatima.

🇬🇶 Equatorial Guinea: April 21 – April 23

    • Address to cultural representatives at the National University (León XIV Campus).

  • Wednesday, April 22 (Mongomo & Bata):
