Pope Leo XIV on Holy Thursday to Wash Feet of 12 Priests at the Lateran Basilica - Most who were Recently Ordained
In a gesture of pastoral service, Pope Leo XIV will wash the feet of twelve Roman priests during the Holy Thursday Mass at the Basilica of Saint John Lateran. The event holds particular significance for eleven of the men, whom the Pope personally ordained into the priesthood last year. The Diocese of Rome issued a statement announcing the names of the 12 priests: Fr. Andrea Alessi, Fr. Gabriele Di Menno Di Bucchianico, Fr. Renzo Chiesa, Fr. Francesco Melone, Fr. Clody Merfalen, Fr. Federico Pelosio, Fr. Marco Petrolo, Fr. Pietro Hieu Nguyen Huai, Fr. Matteo Renzi, Fr. Giuseppe Terranova, Fr. Simone Troilo, and Fr. Enrico Maria Trusiani.
While most are new to their ministry, the group also includes Fr. Renzo Chiesa, a seasoned spiritual director. Following the 5:30 p.m. Mass, the Holy Father will lead the procession of the Blessed Sacrament to the Chapel of Saint Francis.
