Pope Leo XIV sent a message to a massive Easter party in Madrid, Spain. The fourth annual “Feast of the Resurrection” recently drew 85,000 people to a massive concert organized by the Catholic Association of Propagandists (ACdP). Since 1908, this modern nonprofit has used the event to promote Christian humanism in the public square through contemporary music and culture.
Cardinal Cobo read the message that Pope Leo XIV sent to the participants in the IV Feast of the Resurrection.
The Pope said: The world needs to hear about Christ and see him in the works of Christians who live the newness of baptism. We need young people who are not ashamed of the Gospel, communities that radiate hope, witnesses capable of making the Lord present in every environment, lives ablaze that make the beauty of faith visible. Evangelization is not born, above all, of strategies, but of hearts transformed by the risen Lord. (excerpt)
“Until we meet again at Cibeles, I ask you: do not let the present moment pass you by; pray, truly seek Christ; do not settle for the bare minimum, because life, with Christ, is worthwhile. I pray for you, I bless you, and I await you. God willing, we will see each other in June.” Thus ends the message that the Holy Father sent to those attending the Fourth Easter Celebration .
A message was read by the Cardinal Archbishop of Madrid, José Cobo , to the more than 85,000 attendees who packed the Plaza de Cibeles for the Easter Sunday celebration, organized for the fourth consecutive year by the Catholic Association of Propagandists (ACdP) . This festive gathering, open to all, Catholic or not, has become one of the largest and most joyful concerts held in Madrid.
In his message, the Holy Father greets all those present and affirms that “it is good and necessary that Easter also find a language of music, of encounter, and of shared joy. Faith in Jesus Christ gives meaning to human joy; it purifies it, elevates it, and brings it to its fullness.” He also points out that “we need young people who are not ashamed of the Gospel, communities that radiate hope, witnesses capable of making the Lord present in every environment, lives ablaze that make the beauty of faith visible.” And he adds, “How I wish there were celebrations throughout the world! How I wish that Easter joy would find voices, faces, and songs everywhere! But even more: how I wish that the very existence of Christians would become a concert, a great harmony of faith, unity, communion, and charity capable of proclaiming to the world that Christ lives!
Entire families, thousands of young people, and attendees of all ages filled the Cibeles area in an exceptional atmosphere of joy, community, and public celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. On stage, figures such as Liz Mitchell , iconic voice of the musical group Boney M; the Gipsy Kings , world-renowned figures in flamenco rumba; and Hakuna Group Music , a musical phenomenon that connects directly with new generations, shone brightly.
During the event, Ángel Catela , winner of the 'Music and Faith' competition organized by the ACdP, performed the award-winning song, Golgotha . The event featured music by DJ El Pulpo and was hosted by journalist Javi Nieves . As is tradition at this gathering, the concert concluded with the Salve Rociera, bringing to a close a festive, family-friendly, and deeply participatory day.
For the president of the ACdP, Alfonso Bullón de Mendoza , “the image of Cibeles completely full is the best proof that faith is experiencing a moment of renewed vigor, especially among young people, who seek spaces like this to share their joy and experience it in community. We have exceeded all our expectations.” He added that “The Feast of the Resurrection is an open invitation to everyone. Today, thousands of people have responded by filling Cibeles and demonstrating that this celebration is now an integral part of Madrid’s cultural and social life.”
