Papal Spokesman: Matthew Bruni

Good morning, Your Holiness, we are ready for this new journey. On board with you are approximately 80 journalists from over 10 countries, and approximately 20 of them are from Spain. Thank you for this greeting and thank you for the kind words you will share with us in the coming days.

Pope Leo XIV's Words to Journalists

Good morning, good morning everyone.

We're already on Spanish soil, so first of all, I'd like to greet, in Spanish, the Spanish journalists accompanying us and everyone here. Thank you for your service.

As you well know, this is the first papal trip to Spain in a long time, and I am personally very happy to be making it. I have been to Spain many times, but this is the first on this mission: it is an apostolic visit to meet the faithful, celebrate the faith, proclaim the message of Jesus Christ, but, at the same time, to greet everyone, all of society, because the Church has a message for everyone, as I believe you will have seen very clearly in the Encyclical Letter published on May 25th.

I therefore hope it will be a wonderful journey for everyone, an opportunity to cultivate great enthusiasm. There are many Catholics here: I especially want to highlight the presence of young people. From what I've been told, it seems there will be a large number of young people with their enthusiasm, and I believe that, in this sense, by all sharing the joy of faith, we will be able to convey a very beautiful message, a message that will have special meaning in every port we arrive in, so to speak: in Madrid, in Barcelona, in the Canary Islands. May everything happen to live the faith and to proclaim this message of God's love, of charity, of respect for every human being. It was a pleasure to greet you: have a good trip!
Asked whether there is a "just war" in Iran, he replied: "I believe this has already been made very clear: in Iran, the criteria for a just war are not present. The theory of the just war dates back to centuries when it was impossible to imagine the weapons and the destructive capacity available to humanity today."

When asked whether people will choose the pope or Bad Bunny, Pope Leo XIV replied: "I think many will see Bad Bunny. But I think there will also be a few here to see the pope, and that says something."
Elise Ann Allen questioned the pope on his favorite soccer team:
Real Madrid vs Barça?
The pope replied: "That's easy...the Pope is for all teams, but Prevost is Real Madrid"
