Pope Leo XIV Celebrates July 4th with the US Ambassador to the Holy See on the 250th Anniversary of the USA and is Gifted an Apple Pie!

Pope Leo XIV Joins US Ambassador to the Holy See for Historic Fourth of July Celebration

To mark the historic 250th anniversary of the United States, Pope Leo XIV paid a special visit to the US Ambassador to the Holy See, Mr. Brian Burch, at his Rome residence on Saturday evening.

The visit capped off a monumental day for the American-born Pontiff, who also released an official papal letter earlier that morning assuring the American people of his prayers and blessings on their Semiquincentennial.

Key Highlights of the Historic Day

  • A Busy Papal Schedule: Before celebrating America's milestone, Pope Leo spent the first half of Saturday on a pastoral visit to the southern Italian island of Lampedusa, demonstrating his continued solidarity with migrants.

  • A Warm Welcome: Following his return to Rome, the Holy Father accepted Ambassador Burch's invitation, spending the evening with the Ambassador, his wife, and their family.

  • Diplomatic & Moral Discussions: Ambassador Burch and the Pope discussed President Trump’s leadership, alongside American initiatives aimed at promoting global peace, safeguarding religious freedom, and championing moral clarity and courage on the world stage.

A Taste of Home

"I am deeply honored to celebrate this special day with a fellow American and the Bishop of Rome." — Ambassador Brian Burch

In a nod to the Pope's American heritage, the Burch family presented the Holy Father with a few quintessential gifts:

  1. A USA World Cup jersey (prompting Pope Leo to confirm he is enthusiastically rooting for his home country in the tournament).

  2. A commemorative Freedom 250 baseball.

  3. A classic, homemade apple pie
