A Blessed Addition: VP JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance Welcome Their Fourth Child
Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance have announced the arrival of their fourth child, a baby boy named Alec Neel Vance.
The birth marks a historical milestone in American public life: Alec is the first child born to a sitting vice president in more than 150 years.

Second Lady Usha Vance, who was raised in a Hindu household, and Vice President Vance, a Catholic convert, have often spoken about the central role that parenthood plays in their lives. Reflecting on motherhood, Usha recently called raising her children "the greatest privilege of my life," emphasizing the joy of seeing the world through a child's eyes as they grow.
PRAYER for a New Born Baby: "Heavenly Father, we thank You for the precious gift of this newborn baby. Thank You for a safe arrival and the blessing of new life. We commit this sweet child and his family into Your loving hands. Please place your angels around him day and night, grant them good health, and surround him with Your peace. Amen."
A Journey of Faith and Conversion
For Catholic readers, the Vance family's story carries particular resonance.
Though raised in evangelical Protestantism in Ohio and later experiencing a period of secularism, JD Vance officially converted to Roman Catholicism in 2019. His conversion was formally sealed when he received the Sacrament of Confirmation at St. Gertrude Priory in Cincinnati, taking Saint Augustine as his confirmation saint.
In his writings on faith, Vance has frequently noted how Catholic social teaching, the sacramental worldview, and the Church’s deep defense of the family helped anchor his moral worldview and personal life.
The Witness of Family Life
In an era where public service often places tremendous strain on home life, the birth of baby Alec offers a witness to the beauty of large families and the openness to new life—core pillars of Christian teaching. No matter the political preference, as the Vance family welcomes their newest member, communities across the nation join in offering prayers of Thanksgiving for mother and child.
