 Pope Leo XIV Announces Leadership Updates and Appointments to Vatican Council for the Economy

Pope Leo XIV has appointed four new cardinals and four new lay professionals to the Holy See’s Council for the Economy, while reconfirming key leadership positions and long-standing council members.

Key Leadership Reconfirmations

The Pope confirmed the following leaders in their respective positions:

  • Coordinator: Cardinal Reinhard Marx, Archbishop of Munich and Freising

  • Vice-Coordinator: Charlotte Kreuter-Kirchhof, Professor of Law at Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf

  • Secretary: Monsignor Brian Edwin Ferme

  • Denis Duverne (France): Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale and former CEO and Chairman of AXA, born in Lyon (France) on October 31, 1953.

  • Princess Gisela of Liechtenstein (Liechtenstein/Austria): CEO of Industrie und Finanzkontor Etablissement with an extensive background in international investment banking and environmental engineering, born June 26, 1990. (pictured bottom right corner above)

  • Paolo Nusiner (Italy): Director General of the Directorate for General Affairs of the Dicastery for Communication, with executive experience spanning industrial, publishing, and healthcare sectors, born June 13, 1963.

  • Elena Wettstein Principato (Italy): Head of Sales Management for Europe International at UBS Group AG, specializing in financial analysis and wealth management, born in Rome, Italy, in 1987.
