Seoul Unveils Official Hymn for World Youth Day 2027
With one year to go until World Youth Day (WYD) 2027 in Seoul, organizers have released the event's official theme song:
"Confidite, Ego Vici Mundum" ("Take courage! I have overcome the world").
Inspired by John 16:33, the hymn sets the tone for the international gathering of Catholic youth taking place from August 3 to 8, 2027. Sung primarily in Korean alongside English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian, the track blends contemporary vocals with traditional Korean instrumentation. Two versions have been released: a classical orchestral arrangement featuring a full choir, and a modern pop remix.
A Global Collaboration with Korean Roots
Composed by Korean musician Francis Jiyoon Kim, the song was selected from 434 international entries before receiving approval from the Vatican's Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life.
The release marks a major milestone as South Korea prepares to host only the second WYD in Asia, following Manila in 1995. It is also the first time the event will take place in a country where Catholics are a minority, making up roughly 12% of the population.
