Pope Leo XIV Meets with Hungary's Prime Minister Péter Magyar at the Vatican and Receives an Invitation to Visit!



Pope Leo XIV on the morning of September 24, received the Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar and his sons. Magyar then had talks in the Secretariat of State, focusing on international current affairs, in particular the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. In the Apostolic Palace at the Vatican, the pontiff received Hungary's Prime Minister Péter Magyar in audience. This was reported in a statement from the Holy See Press Office.

It was an honour and an uplifting experience to be received in a private audience today by Pope Leo XIV at the Apostolic Palace. We spoke at length about Hungary and the challenges facing Europe, and we also touched on the increasingly important issue of artificial intelligence, as well as the loneliness experienced by young people. I shared with
@Pontifex the events of recent years in Hungary and explained how an approach to politics based on honesty, real human connection, and hard work can succeed. At the end of our meeting, I asked a papal blessing for our country and invited the Holy Father to visit Hungary.

 Magyar subsequently met with Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations. During their "cordial discussions," the statement reads, satisfaction was expressed for the good bilateral relations and the contribution the Catholic Church makes to the life of the country. According to the Holy See, the dialogue focused on Hungary's socioeconomic context and on issues of mutual interest, particularly education and the protection of the world's most vulnerable Christian communities. Finally, they exchanged views on current international affairs, particularly "the conflict situations in Ukraine and the Middle East, expressing the hope for an ever-increasing commitment from the international community to promoting peace."
