Pope Leo XIV has accepted an honorary title granted by King Charles III, the Dean and Canons of Windsor, and supported by the Archbishop of Canterbury. He has been named a Fellow of St. George’s College at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor—a gesture symbolizing deep spiritual communion, ecumenical friendship, and Christian brotherhood, while honoring the growing ties between the Catholic Church, the Church of England, and the global Anglican Communion.
This announcement comes exactly one year after King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s state visit to the Vatican on October 23, 2025. During that historic trip, the royal couple toured the Sistine and Pauline Chapels before visiting the Papal Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls. There, with the Pope’s blessing, King Charles was welcomed as a royal brother of the Abbey.
In a reciprocal gesture, the King extended an invitation for Pope Leo XIV to become a papal brother of St. George’s College and Chapel, which the Pope graciously accepted. According to the British Royal Household, these historic acts reflect a shared commitment to Christian unity and mutual respect between the Monarch and the Pontiff. To mark the honor, a dedicated chair for the Pope will be unveiled inside St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.
