Vatican Announces Release of New Publication of The Private Diary of Pope Francis for Global Release in 94 Countries

Vatican to Publish The Private Diary of Pope Francis in Global Release

On November 24, 2026, the Vatican Publishing House will launch The Private Diary of Pope Francis, authored by Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. The book features and reflects upon personal notes kept by Jorge Mario Bergoglio from December 1992 through August 2024.

The global release spans five languages and 94 countries. The Vatican Publishing House will publish the Italian edition, while Penguin Random House will handle the English, Spanish, and Portuguese releases, and Éditions Albin Michel will publish in French.

The volume offers an intimate look at the inner life and personal reflections of the Jesuit Pope, who led the Catholic Church from 2013 until his passing in April 2025.

"Through this book, readers around the world will gain an even deeper understanding of the Argentine Pope’s inner life," said Andrea Tornielli, Editorial Director of the Dicastery for Communication.

Lorenzo Fazzini, Editorial Director of the Vatican Publishing House, noted that the title follows another recent high-profile release—Free Under Grace, a collection of writings by Cardinal Robert F. Prevost prior to his election as Pope Leo XIV.

The Vatican Publishing House will showcase The Private Diary of Pope Francis to international publishers at the Frankfurt Book Fair (October 7–11, 2026).
