AMERICA: CANADA: NIGERIAN PRIEST'S INSPIRING VOCATION STORY

SPECIAL TO JCE NEWS:
VOCATION WITNESS-My name is Joachim Nnanna. Iam a roman Catholic priest presently serving in the Diocese of Peterborough. I am originally from Nigeria and was born and raised there. I come from a very large family of 8 boys and 1 girl. My parents are practicing Catholics who instilled in us from an early age, the love of the church and the practice of the Faith. My call to the priesthood began in the form of admiration for priests. I had the blessing of coming in contact with loving and caring priests who loved their vocation and the Church. I joined the minor seminary at the age of 12 and after six years of formation in the minor seminary, I had one year of internship and discernment. This was the time I realized that God actually was calling me to something higher than studying Law which was my other passion. After nine years in the Major seminary, I was ordained to the Catholic Priesthood on the 11th day of July, 1998. My experiences in the priesthood in Nigeria, Rome and presently in Canada have been very rewarding. I have encountered men and women of faith who have affirmed my choice of vocation in life and have also challenged my spiritual life. I love being a priest and am very privileged to be a member of the unique fraternity known as the Catholic priesthood. I consider it the greatest honor ever given to a mere mortal to be able to celebrate the sacraments especially the Eucharist. The challenges I have encountered so far have helped me appreciate the sacrifice of being a Catholic priest. I only pray that it may please God to give me many more years in his service. God bless you. Rev. Joachim Nnanna.
