LISTEN to This Day God Gives Me - A Beautiful Hymn Attributed to Saint Patrick a Gaelic Tune to Touch Your Heart!

This beautiful hymn is attributed to Saint Patrick. St. Patrick was born in Scotland but became a slave in Ireland and later a bishop and missionary there. This tune named BUNESSAN is a Gaelic tune that was first published (melody only) in Lachlan Macbean's Songs and Hymns of the Gael in 1888.

Fr. James Quinn, who was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on April 21, 1919 and died in Edinburgh, Scotland, on April 8, 2010 was a Roman Catholic Jesuit priest who was ordained in 1950. He adapted the words of this hymn to the tune.
This Day God Gives Me Hymn Lyrics:
This day God gives me
Strength of high heaven,
Sun and moon shining,
Flame in my hearth,
Flashing of lightning,
Wind in its swiftness,
Deeps of the ocean,
Firmness of earth.
This day God sends me
Strength to sustain me,
Might to uphold me,
Wisdom as guide.
Your eyes are watchful,
Your ears are list'ning,
Your lips are speaking,
Friend at my side.
God's way is my way,
God's shield is round me,
God's host defends me,
Saving from ill.
Angels of heaven,
Drive from me always
All that would harm me,
Stand by me still.
Rising, I thank you,
Mighty and strong One,
King of creation,
Giver of rest,
Firmly confessing
Threeness of Persons,
Oneness of Godhead,
Trinity blest.
St. Patrick, James Quinn
