After the great independence struggle of Bangladesh and the consequent emergence of independent Bangladesh, the ‘Bangladesh Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Bangladesh was abbreviated in 1971, which is known as CBCB for short. The Catholic Directory states that CBCB was established in 1971. The first CBCB meeting was held in independent Bangladesh on February 2-4, 1972. At this meeting, the Bishops of Bangladesh decided that a delegation of three Bishops would visit the Vatican and request the Pope to give the Vatican full recognition to the newly independent Bangladesh and to establish diplomatic relations with the new country. From then on, CBCB's activities started in full swing. In continuation of this, from 1971 to 2021 AD: CBCB is celebrating its golden jubilee in 2022 AD by crossing this path of 50 years.

Notre Dame University, Notre Dame College, Holycross College, St. Joseph's College and more than three hundred reputed educational institutions are being run in the country through CBCB. Apart from this Caritas Bangladesh is also an organization run by the Bangladesh Bishop's Conference. CBCB also has about 70 hospitals and health centres.
