Pope Francis Tells Bishops Remember "...to be alert to the 3 idolatries that always threaten the march of the faithful People of God..." to CELAM of Latin America and the Caribbean

LETTER OF THE HOLY FATHER FRANCIS
ON THE OCCASION OF THE INAUGURATION OF THE NEW HEADQUARTERS OF CELAM IN COLOMBIA
To Your Most Reverend Excellency
Bishop Héctor Miguel CABREJOS VIDARTE, O.F.M.
Archbishop of Trujillo
President of CELAM
Dear brother:
On the occasion of the blessing and inauguration of the new headquarters of CELAM, next July 12, in Bogotá, I would like to thank you and the other members of the Presidency for the letter in which they make me a part of that event. I ask you to convey my cordial greeting to the Bishops of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as to the priests, religious men and women, lay collaborators, as well as to all the guests who participate in the event.
While I invite you to give thanks to God for the happy conclusion of this material work, which can be of help in carrying out projects of evangelization and pastoral formation in support of the Episcopal Conferences, it is opportune that we bear in mind that "if the Lord does not build the house, the builders tire in vain» (Ps 127,1). As a community of disciples built "on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, whose cornerstone is Christ" (Eph 2:20), we feel the perennial need to beseech the Risen Lord to promote and strengthen our ecclesial mission with the power of his Holy Spirit. , to be ready to discern the signs of the times and respond, from the perspective of faith, hope and charity, to the needs of the faithful Holy People of God. Let us not forget that our material structures only make sense when they are intended to serve, above all, the sisters and brothers who inhabit the most extreme peripheries of life. And remember to be alert to the three idolatries that always threaten the march of the faithful People of God: spiritual mediocrity, the pragmatism of numbers, and the functionalism that leads us to get excited about the route plan rather than the route. Temptations that do not tolerate mystery and go to efficacy (cf. Chrism Mass Homily, April 14, 2022)
I ask you to extend my gratitude to all those who have collaborated in the realization of this project. May Jesus bless you and the Holy Virgin take care of you. And please don't forget to pray for me.
Fraternally,
FRANCIS
Rome, Saint John Lateran, June 24, 2022, Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

I was hoping maybe he was going to say something scriptural like the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. But then again this is the Pope we’re talking about. 🤷🏽‍♂️
